Powerball Lotto – Player’s Guide

Powerball Lotto – Player’s Guide

Another of the most popular Lotto games is called Powerball. The powerball motto is “one ball could change it all” and it is definitely spot on with how this lotto game is played and won.

Powerball requires the player to select 5 out of an available 45 numbers on each game panel they wish to enter for the weekly draw. In addition to selecting the 5 main numbers, the player is also required to select just one number, the “powerball” number in a separate section of the game panel.

You can select your numbers each week on a game card, store your favourite numbers with the lotto game or take a quickpick for your chance to win the powerball prize.

Powerball is played on Thursday evenings and is usually drawn live on free to air television. Entries for the powerball draw close at 7:30pm AEST to allow time for all entries to be verified in the system before the draw commences.

The minimum number of games you must play in your Powerball entry is 2. You can play any number of standard game panels up to 12 plus up to 36 games if you choose a quickpick entry.

Powerball game prizes are split into divisional prize pools just as with the other lotto games. These run from Division 1 which is the top prize through to Division 5 which is the bottom prize. The divisions work as below:

  • Division 1: Get all 5 winning numbers from the first machine draw plus the 1 Powerball number from the second machine draw.
  • Division 2: Get all 5 winning numbers from the first machine draw.
  • Division 3: Get any 4 winning numbers from the first machine draw plus the 1 Powerball number from the second machine draw.
  • Division 4: Get any 3 winning numbers from the first machine draw plus the 1 Powerball number from the second machine draw.
  • Division 5: Get any 3 winning numbers from the first machine draw.

Just like the Saturday and Wednesday lotto draws, there are several ways to enter and win the Powerball lotto draw every Thursday. The first way to play is known as a Quickpick. A quickpick is where a computer generated ticket is entered into the draw for you. You do not have to select any of the number combinations or the powerball number in any game you enter. This is probably the quickest and easiest way to play powerball.

Another way to play powerball is by marking your coupon manually. Simply follow the instructions to select your 5 primary game numbers and your powerball number for each game you are entering.

As with Saturday Lotto and Wednesday Lotto, you are able to play a Syndicate entry with the Powerball game. Syndicates are groups of players who agree to all place money into a pool towards their game entry. For more information on syndicate entries or to get an entry organized, you can speak to your local lotto agent or jump online.

Powerball also allows System Entries. The major difference in Powerball system entries is that you are only able to select extra numbers in the primary number field. So for example to play a system 10 in the powerball, you select 10 numbers in the primary number field and only 1 number as normal for your powerball.

It is also possible to enter your Powerball games in advance with Advance or Multiweek entries. These allow you to either select a game or games in the future and schedule your numbers in advance to play for these games. Or, you are able to enter the same numbers in successive weekly games.
