quickly the number of 1's in the middle and then down to one either side.

How quickly can you ad the following?

This should take you less than 10 seconds if you know the rule that applies

the answer is  2,985,643,760

Can you see the common factors ????

123,456,789 + 876,543,210 = 999,999,999

and

135,790,864 + 864,209,135 = 999,999,999

so what you are left with is

999,999,999 + 999,999,999 + 985,643,762 =

now subtract the whole number 2 from

985,643,762 -(2) as in 985,643,760

and place (2) in front  2,985,643,760

another example is

999,999,999 + 999,999,999 + 999,999,999 = 2,999,999,997

Have fun-  it's called the rule of 9. A Great one for teachers wanting to ad a little fun to the math's classes. It can be as broad and as deep as you like all you have to remember is your 9 times table.

When cognitive and perceptive ability is demonstrated it would make the learned  J. P. Guilford proud.

 

However I have 2 questions about this page:

                      1. what is the importance of such an exercises and

                      2. what does it contribute to mankind?

          Answer: It causes one to think! When you think! You can decide on the best course of action also it's a great exercise to fight of Alzheimer's.

 

J. P. Guilford who you may ask?

 

The “Structure of Intellect model” was originated by J. P. Guilford an American psychologist (1956, 1959, 1967, 1981; International Society, 1988). It was Guilford who first proved that the intellect comprises multiple functions. More……….. Dr. JP Guilford, president of the APA in 1949-1950 was very instrumental in championing the cause for multiple intelligences. He and others felt that the universal intelligence, or "g" as proposed by Spearman (among others) was limited in its scope. Guilford went on to develop his Structure of Intellect model which identifies over 100 separate intellectual functions or abilities. A typical IQ test measures only about 8-10 of those abilities. The WAIS touches on upwards of 20 abilities.  Over a 20 year span Dr. Guilford developed hundreds of tests that measure the intellectual abilities of children and adults. The key here is the understanding that through focused exercises which are designed to develop specific intellectual abilities, improvement will occur. Some of that improvement will be measured by a traditional IQ test. If one is seeking to improve their intellectual functions (e.g.-how well they think, how well they problem solve, how creative they are, etc.) one of their first steps should be to correctly assess which of their intellectual abilities are "weak" and which are "strong."  Guilford's tests do this.
